From my week 1 post, I told you guys that I would be tackling two problem scenarios in my TVC - fairies being unable to fly in rain and fairies getting stuck in spiderwebs. However, after discussing storylines with my lecturer, I realised that 30 seconds was too short to fit two problems in.

My lecturer also pointed out to me that helping fairies fly in rain and getting out of spiderwebs meant that it would have two selling points instead of one. This meant that I would have to choose just one problem scenario.

I chose the spiderweb situation with no hesitation because honestly, it’s always been the idea that was closer to my heart. I just had so many more ideas on how I could animate it and it allowed for the warm glowing background that I wanted as opposed to the dark mood of a rainy day.

I started off by drawing a rough environment, so I could figure out where the scenario would take place and how it would look.

Initially, as seen in my thumbnail, I wanted the spiderweb to fill up a big portion of the composition. However, after I had painted everything out, I realised I was viewing the plants from a human's perspective and made them too small. What would be a small blade of grass, could easily be as tall as a fairy, and I should've zoomed into the environment much more.

This meant that I had to adjust the size of the spiderweb as well. I had painted in a few stalks of flowers that stood out tall and it was the perfect place for the spiderweb to hang from. I finally added in a fairy flying (unknowingly) towards the web, to see how it would look in scale.

I still wanted to materialise my original composition with the fairy stuck in the web so I zoomed into the background and painted in the fairy AND the spider.

These are still very rough and is not the style that I will be using for my final but it helped me figure out what I want and didn't want. I now know how big I had to draw my plants for my final backgrounds but at the same time, I wasn't really happy with the colours.

The mood didn't match what I had envisioned because now it felt more like a light-hearted cartoon for kindergarteners when I wanted it to feel more fantastical like Disney's Fantasia or Bambi. Perhaps I need to tone down the yellow glow and extremely saturated colours. What do you think?

Oh! And about the product name..

I received some feedback from my lecturer that the word "Seeping" in my product name "Seeping Dew" sounded a little off-putting. I tried to find replacements for that word such as "Fleeing" or "Fluttering" but they didn't sound right either.

And then an epiphany; my lecturer told me I could just remove the first word altogether and just name my product "Dew". Mind Blown. I didn't even know that was allowed since it was so simple but I LOVE IT!!! I am a sucker for simplicity and you couldn't get any simpler than this. "Dew" also made me think of brands like Dior that have such a classy feeling to it.

Now my product would simply be:

Dew by Fae's Briar

Doesn't it sound simply exquisite?

Love the concept art omg! I think maybe you can add more blues and pinks since those are the first colours that come to mind when I think of Fantasia. Dew by Fae's Briar sounds like an expensive perfume. love it

The naming of your company fits your product really well, as a suggestion for your background maybe you would want to take a look at " A Bug's Life" the movie for some inspiration?
